A Day in Pike Place Market

After having lived in Seattle for more than two years, I've visited Pike Place Market my fair share of times. I used to get really excited about it, but now I'm a little more practical, and spend just enough time there to buy some flowers and try some truffle oil. The last time I went, with my roommates over the summer who weren't from Seattle, we did a little walking around and exploring.

The first Starbucks. The line, of course, was around the corner.

These dried flower bouquets were so pretty that my roommate bought some to take back to school with her.

I'd never actually seen the gum wall before this outing. It was about as disgusting as I had expected it would be. I do not think I will go back.

Back to Bat Mitzvahs

At the beginning of the summer, Brendan and I took a trip back to Bend for Father's Day weekend. It just so happened that one of the girls I used to nanny for was having her Bat Mitzvah that same weekend. I was so excited to bring Brendan to his first real Jewish experience.

The party was so cute! The colors were purple and pink, and they were everywhere: in the candy, in the flowers, and in the photobooth photos.

It's always very interesting going to a Bar or Bat Mitzvah now that I'm past Bat Mitzvah age. I loved being 12-14 and going to all my friends' Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Of course, I loved my own Bat Mitzvah, but learning hours worth of Hebrew prayers and readings makes the experience a little different. It was so much fun sharing this part of my life with Brendan.

DIY Review: Distressed Denim

Since buying my first pair of jeans this winter, I've been itching to add some more denim to my wardrobe. This time, I was looking for a nice pair of distressed denim. After months of looking, I was about to give up, when I decided to DIY my way to destroyed jean happiness. I found this DIY on Pinterest, bought the cheapest pair of jeans I could find, and sat down to make what I'd been searching for.

What you'll need:

A pair of jeans
Scissors
A cheap razor
Tweezers
A marker

Step 1: Try on your jeans to see where the knees are. Mark places that you'd like to distress. I'd recommend the upper thighs (near the pockets) and knees to start.

Step 2: Before you tear into your jeans, use the razor to make the material softer and to give it a more natural distressed look (optional).

Step 3: Cut 2 parallel slits where you want to create a distressed area.

Step 4: Use tweezers to tear out the vertical threads in the area between the two slits.

Step 5: Use tweezers to tug the vertical threads on the other side of each slit to create a distressed/frayed look.

*Okay, now this is where I strayed off course from the tutorial. I didn't like the way my first distressed area turned out, so I decided to take a different approach. The jeans I bought were only 67% cotton instead of the recommended 100%, so the material wasn't doing what I wanted it to do.

Lauren suggested I just go at the denim with some scissors. Honestly, it was fairly satisfactory. It was much easier and looked more natural than the way I was distressing the jeans before.

All in all, I like the way my jeans turned out. If I could do it over again, though, I would have planned out which areas I was going to distress better beforehand.

Fall 2015 Pantone Colors

It's officially October, which means it's officially fall. Fall is my favorite season of the year, in part because of how much I love fall fashion. Pantone's colors for this fall, inspired by what was sent down the FW 15 runways, have also made me excited for this season. I can't wait to wear these colors and hope the below collages inspire you, too.
