OOTD: Part of the Skyline

On Saturday, I took a trip to the East River State Park in Williamsburg to see what Smorgasburg was all about. Here are the Cliff notes: it's expensive, crowded, and just as cool as it was in "Master of None".

Since summer's been in New York, I've been struggling a little more to get dressed in the morning. I need to be work-appropriate during the week, which can be difficult in 90 F heat. Yeah, I know that's not actually that bad, but I'm from the Pacific North West! 90 feels like death.

On the weekend, though, I want to take advantage of not having to wear appropriate clothing. I try not to buy a lot of clothes that I can't wear to the office; it doesn't make sense to only own clothing that I can wear 2/7ths of the time. My office has a pretty lax dress code, so all of my week-wear is really cute and totally wearable outside the office. This isn't too dissimilar from my time in college, when I could basically wear anything I wanted to class. Now that I work in a professional environment, the few things I can't wear stick out like a sore thumb, and I often think about how badly I want to wear my ripped jeans or crop tops during the week.

I definitely can't wear this shirt to work, for example, so I wanted to wear it this weekend because I haven't worn it since I bought it. The only problem is that I didn't want to wear it with ANYTHING in my closet. It usually takes me 15 minutes to get dressed and ready in the morning, but I took a full 45 minutes to sort through everything I own trying to figure out how to best take advantage of not having to adhere to a dress code.

So... A little silly, right? I'm working on finding a balance between being happy with what I wear and getting out of the house in a reasonable amount of time. One of my goals is to stop putting pressure on myself to look picture perfect every day. What really matters is the experience I have on my days off, not what I look like on these adventures. Plus, I can definitely put a cute outfit like this together in a couple minutes if I don't push myself for perfection.

OOTD: Cold & Windy

So, it's March; isn't it supposed to be warm by now? Clearly, New York has not gotten the message, because it was 14 F outside this weekend. I may have grown up in that kind of weather, but I haven't ever had to be out in it for long periods of time. Luckily, I have a HUGE collection of coats to keep me warm. I hardly ever wore this faux fur coat when I lived in Seattle– it was just never cold enough. Now, I wear it several times a week. I'm glad I kept it even when I didn't have very much use for it.

OOTD: Last First Day

September 21st marked a momentous day: my last first day of school! I can't believe I've been in school for 15 years, and I definitely can't believe I'm graduating in just a few short months. Do I look like someone who's ready to take on the real world? I have no idea what my future holds (to the point of minute panic), but I'm certainly not trying to give off those vibes. I'm trying to take advantage of dressing non-professionally for as long as I can; hence the crop top and extreme distressed denim.

OOTD: Big Dipper

Those of you who follow me on Instagram probably know that I got matching big dipper/little dipper tattoos with my little sister last month. We've wanted to get matching tattoos for as long as I can remember, and our mutual love of the stars made constellations a perfect option. We settled on the big dipper/little dipper combo because we're each others' big and little sisters. Now that I've written the official background story on the internet, I assume I'm free to tell bs stories to strangers who ask about the meaning of my tattoo in the future... Right?

I've wanted to get a wrist tattoo since I was 16. I planned on getting one several months after turning 18 to celebrate going a year without self-harming, but encountered some issues with my parents. Placing a tattoo, a permanent piece of art, on a part of my body that I used to punish when I was experiencing a particularly rough bout of depressive symptoms, seems like an appropriate way to both honor my past struggles and constantly remind myself of the hope that I have for the future. I've been free of self-harm since October 20, 2015, and I've made tremendous strides in my treatment since then. I'm proud to be able to look at this inscription on my body and be reminded of what I've been through and one of my biggest supporters and reasons to live: my sister.

OOTD: Patterns and Pleats

Hello from Boston! For the second spring break in a row, I'm visiting Brendan at Harvard. We've been walking all over the city looking at the beautiful and historic architecture. These pictures were taken after walking 4.67 miles on the Freedom Trail, which took us from the North End to Charlestown. OOTD: Sorry I'm Late

Anyone who knows me knows I'm always running 10-15 minutes late. I've been working on it a lot in the last couple months, but I'm constantly sliding into my seat moments after the clock indicates class has started and sending "on my way!" texts at the time I'm supposed to be meeting a friend. So, when I saw this shirt, it was a no brainer that I had to have it. I love this outfit because, beyond wearing my catchphrase, I'm pulling off a faux fur piece while being comfortable as hell in these sweats. One of my favorite trends right now is faux fur with lounge pieces, and I'm looking forward to trying it more in the future.

OOTD: Little House in the City

This outfit is big for me in a number of ways. First of all, I'm not known for wearing so many light colors in one look. Second of all, I'm wearing several very special items from some very special people in my life. I bought myself this Star of David nose ring after searching for one since I was sixteen. This necklace was a gift from a good friend of mine, and it contains dried wildflowers from the camp she worked at this summer. The belt was my grandma's– she was so petite that it only barely fits me when I wear it to cinch my waist. I love wearing items that not only look beautiful, but that remind me of the beautiful people I have in my life.

Fall 2015 Pantone Colors

It's officially October, which means it's officially fall. Fall is my favorite season of the year, in part because of how much I love fall fashion. Pantone's colors for this fall, inspired by what was sent down the FW 15 runways, have also made me excited for this season. I can't wait to wear these colors and hope the below collages inspire you, too.
