OOTD: Ring of Flowers

Shoes: Similar from Make Me Chic
Pants: Similar from H&M
Shirt: Similar from Forever 21

It was 70 degrees in Seattle today, and I was lucky enough to have class outside! I made this daisy chain and wore it around all day. I wish I could wear homemade flower crowns every day--hopefully this summer I will have the opportunity.

Tutu Cute

Dress: NiceEShop
Sweater: Old Navy
Belt: Similar from Bare Feet Shoes
Jacket: H&M
Necklace: Bijou Brigitte
Earrings: Similar from Debenham's

After being sick for a couple days, I decided to put on a cute new outfit and see what I'd missed at the neighborhood stores I usually hit up once a week. It took me a while to figure out what I was going to wear with this tutu dress that wouldn't make me look like a grown toddler, but eventually I found that subtle and neutral items would highlight the skirt without adding extra pizazz.

OOTD: Hannah in Wonderland

My dear friend Emily took me to an urban garden for Easter weekend. These last couple months I've been finding out that there's actually a lot of nature inside the Seattle city limits... You just have to know where to look. I'm glad I wore these boots with these socks and this messy-flouncy silhouette to wonderland; I felt like Alice!

So All About That: Dressed to Kill

Many people who meet me would describe me as sweet, kind, and, essentially, harmless. While I usually dress to support this, sometimes I find pleasure in dressing to kill. By that, of course, I mean wearing fashionable items that also just so happen to be slightly dangerous. Spikes, sharp heels, and cute self-defense pieces don't just serve to look cute; they're there to let you show off your darker side.

Cat self defense keychain: As the title of the website suggests, Wicked Clothes is a great source of edgy clothing; including these cute self defense keychains that look like a cat face. No one wants to be stuck in a situation where they need to use a self defense keychain, but it'd be even more of a nightmare being in that situation without a method of self defense.

Spiked bra: Though astoundingly impractical, the spiked bra serves as both a hot piece of clothing and an intimidating thing to wear in public. This specific bra from ROMWE is particularly great because the website includes looks designed to feature harder to wear items to give the buyer some ideas.

Talon nail ring: You can get as many of these as you want (some people go so far as filling an entire hand), but I'd recommend sticking to just 1. LilyFair Jewelry manufactures this ring in both black and gold.

Stiletto nails: For those of you who don't follow current celebrity trends, it's important for you to know that stiletto nails are all the rage right now. Everyone from Lily Allen to Kylie Jenner is rocking them. Pretty Little Polish on Etsy sells a variety of these fake nails in a variety of colors and patterns.

Spiked heels: I remember seeing a spy movie once in which a woman had a pair of stilettos whose heels were actually knives. Though they don't actually manufacture those, these spiked stilettos are a nice close second.

Spiky steel-toed booties: Steel-toed boots are one thing; but incorporating the spiky trend into the shoe makes it more fashionable and more threatening. These booties from Charlotte Russe fulfill these requirements.

OOTD: Ebb & Flow

Boots: Find vintage cowboy boots here
Skirt: Similar from Indie XO
Shirt: Similar from Forever 21
Bikini top: H&M
Necklace: Similar from Forever 21
Cardigan: Express, similar from CiCi Hot

I found this skirt in a pile of clothes I'd tried to consign a while back--I've grown bored of all my high-low skirts/dresses--and decided to put it to use if it wasn't going to earn me money to buy more clothes. I turned it sideways a la Kylie Jenner. At least I was able to make it new-ish and quite a bit more interesting.

Cover Up

Pants: Similar from Forever 21
Shirt: H&M
Jacket: H&M
Earrings: Similar from JSW Metal Works on Etsy
Headband: Similar from Pacsun

I forgot to wash my hair for a couple days and used this headscarf as a quick fix to cover up my semi-greasy hair. I then embraced the urban boho look and wore these harem-esque pants and a pair of giant earrings. The perfect look for an end of spring day.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

I recently joined a national college blog network through my school's chapter of Her Campus, where my first assignment is to write a short news piece on April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I don't want to distract from the gravity of this subject, but I also want to somehow make this article approachable. If you have any helpful suggestions, please let me know! In the meantime, here are a few stylish things you can do to show your support.

  • Wear teal. The teal ribbon is worn across America to show support for victims of sexual assault and to spread awareness of this cause. I say, take this to the next level--wear teal nail polish, eyeliner, and other accessories that noticeably represent this color.
  • Check out the #nomore campaign. Celebrities from Amy Poehler to Ice-T and quite a few others in between have gotten behind this movement to support victims of sexual assault and provide assistance and help to the community (see their PSA here). In addition to guiding the general public through the basics of what sexual assault means and how to prevent it, it also connects the community through a mutual support of the cause on social media sites. Now spreading awareness is easy--by posting a picture on Instagram, hash-tagging on Twitter, and sharing links on Facebook.
  • Talk about it. This year's SAAM campaign is dedicated to promoting safe sex on all levels, but especially to adolescents. The best way to do this, they advocate is simply by talking about it. I personally could tell countless stories of people I know never being taught about sex beyond that it can lead to STDs and pregnancy who later become either abuse victims or the abusers themselves; simply because they don't know what sexual abuse is/looks like. In making this an easier topic to discuss, it educates the general public and prevents further abuse in newer generations.
  • Know the signs. Being a victim of sexual assault is scary--it's one of those things that you know happens, but that you think would never happen to you. Knowing the signs of an abusive relationship or encounter can protect you or your loved ones from suffering from sexual assault. Many colleges provide helpful information on the subject.
I know this wasn't fashion-centric, but it's important to remember that style isn't just the clothes you're wearing, but the wellbeing and personality of the person wearing them. Keep yourself and others safe and stylish this April and all year by spreading awareness of sexual assault.

Shine Through

Boots: Find vintage cowboy boots here
Socks: Similar from JCPenney
Skirt: Similar from 29 'n Under
Shirt: Similar from Lucky 21
Jacket: Similar from Windsor

It was 72 degrees today in Seattle; summer by almost all counts. I didn't know what to do with myself-- I've been so used to prioritizing layering these last 4 or 5 months that I found myself trying to do the same today. The thing I had to keep reminding myself to prevent overheating: wear something you want to show off. Without being hidden under a cardigan, a scarf, and a jacket, this awesome chiffon peplum top and sequin skirt were able to shine.

Sunday Funday

Dress: Forever 21, similar from H&M
Vest: DKNY, similar from PacSun
Headband: Bijou Brigitte, similar from Francesca's

My friend Kenzie and I have a long-standing tradition of going out and running errands/exploring the town every Sunday. I'm a very firm believer that Sundays are pajama days, but I also like dressing up to hang out on Capitol Hill. Luckily, there's a very easy solution: the maxi dress. If you choose one in the right fabric, it feels like you're wrapped up in the perfect blanket, but you still look nice. That's one of my main tricks of the "college student who wants to have it all, including comfort and style" (that title is not patent pending but it should be) fashion life; when in doubt, just wear a dress.

Flashback: Winter Wonderland

Shirt: Similar from American Eagle
Cardigan: Similar from Windsor
Vest: Similar from Goody's
Scarf: Similar from ASOS
Gloves: Similar from ASOS
Earrings: Similar from Forever 21

I was working outside all day to help restore one of Seattle's urban forests, which reminded me a lot of my backyard, which consequently made me nostalgic for winter in my hometown. My lovely sister took these photos when she was first building her portfolio--I love looking at them whenever I miss her and remembering how much fun I had "modeling" for her!

OOTD: Rhinestone Eyes

Skirt: Similar from Windsor
Top: Similar from Forever 21
Jacket: Similar from Charlotte Russe
Necklace: Similar from Maurice's

I don't know if I've mentioned this yet, but this is one of my favorite color schemes: olive green, white, black, and tan. It makes me feel tough as nails but down-to-earth and sweet at the same time. I'm also particularly proud of this necklace: it was a random find at a boutique in Spain, and has served many purposes both formal and casual.
