OOTD: Lazy Sunday

Though I claim to try to alternate spending my Sundays in bed and out exploring, I end up doing nothing most Sundays. I love my Lazy Sundays– since graduating, I don't have any real responsibilities on the weekends, leaving me free to do absolutely nothing.
On the occasion that I have to leave the house on a Lazy Sunday, I'm lenient to have to change out of my pajamas. I've developed a pretty good alternative outfit that's easy, fast, comfortable, and appropriate to be seen in in public.
The keys to the perfect Lazy Sunday outfit:
- Your most comfortable shoes (classic Uggs don't count).
- A pair of leggings. I'm only a little embarrassed that my comfiest pair of pants are actually jeggings, which are just leggings with a button and zipper.
- A soft T-shirt.
- A really cozy sweater. This is actually a faux shearling coat, and wearing it feels like being wrapped in a blanket.
- No makeup. I'm literally just wearing some brow gel (I feel my best when my brows are done, ok?) and some tinted lip balm.
- Some sort of complicated-looking (but secretly super easy) updo. This french braid bun is hiding the fact that I haven't washed my hair in a week!

What to Wear: to the Airport

Of all the occasions I dress for, dressing to travel is one of the most difficult. Balancing style with comfort and practicality is a hard line to walk. Luckily, I've been flying since I was 13 days old, and have picked up a couple of tricks to doing so in the appropriate clothing.

Whoever said leggings can't be pants just didn't want you to be comfortable. Leggings are ideal to wear when traveling because they're the perfect layering item and are simply comfortable enough to spend an otherwise uncomfortable day in.

If you're traveling somewhere a little chillier, a scarf is a must-pack. Save room in your suitcase and give yourself a built-in pillow by wearing a scarf on the plane.

No one likes airport security. Make the process a little easier on yourself by wearing shoes that are easy to slip on and off. Just don't forget to pair them with socks: you definitely don't want to walk barefoot through the metal detector!

Layering is essential when traveling for two reasons. First of all, wearing as much as possible leaves that much more room in your suitcase. Second of all, layering will help you adjust to the temperature changes from one place to the next; especially if you're traveling somewhere cold or if you get chilly on airplanes.

This is essential when dressing comfortably to travel. Lightweight and loose-fitting clothes let you look cute without sitting in a seat for hours on end with your clothes digging into you.

A Broke Girl's Guide To: Wardrobe Basics

My wardrobe is constantly changing. I love reselling my clothes and using the money to update and improve my closet. Through it all, though, there are a couple items that I seem to either always keep around or replace as soon as they wear out. These are my must-have items that form the foundation of my wardrobe.

1. Black puffer coat: As a Pacific Northwest native, everyone I know has a Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket. I've had mine since high school, and I still wear it a couple times a week. It's cute, comfortable, practical, and super compact. If you live somewhere that gets colder than 41 F, invest in the real deal; as expensive as it is, it is well-worth all the wear you'll get out of it. Patagonia has a huge after-Christmas sale if you're looking to grab one for less! If you happen to live somewhere warm, buy a knock-off for traveling.
2. High-waisted dark wash jeans: Dark-wash jeans are by far the most versatile and easy-to-wear way to wear jeans. You can dress them up if you're going for a Kendall Jenner look or dress them down to wear grocery shopping. I love high-waisted because you can tuck your shirt in to accentuate your figure or wear your top loose if you're feeling self-conscious. For me, if it's not high-waisted, it's a no-go.
3. Black wool (or wool-like) coat: I have three wool coats, but the one that gets the most use is definitely my black one. It goes with everything, keeps me warm, and is a super easy way to look like I put effort into my look when all I really did was throw on a nice coat on my way out the door. Try a fitted coat if you're going classic. If layering is a priority, try a looser fit or even go a size up.
4. Faux leather moto jacket: I bought my moto jacket from H&M for 40 Euros when I was 16. Now, five years later, it's still one of my favorite pieces. It's perfect for fall and spring transitional weather, and immediately makes anything I'm wearing 10x cooler.
5. Black cardigan: Cardigans are the perfect all-weather item. You need them for layering in the fall and winter, wear them as outerwear in the spring, and carry them with you when you go out at night in the summer. A black cardigan goes with everything, and it's so common that you can find one for just a couple dollars at a consignment store if you look long enough.
6. White long-sleeve shirt: I've owned a white long-sleeve shirt since I was in middle school. I usually pick them up at H&M sales or even at Costco, and as soon as I wear through one, I shop for the next. It's a classic piece that goes with everything, and thus a must-have.
7. Fitted black crop top: I've owned a bunch of these in a couple different styles: long-sleeved, velvet, crochet-necked, short-sleeved, striped, and, most recently, mock-necked. As someone who exclusively wears high-waisted bottoms (especially skirts), this is the perfect go-to top.
8. Waterproof watch: Whether you regularly find yourself in water or not, having a waterproof watch is the best way to go to prevent having to replace your timepiece after forgetting to take it off even once. Brendan bought me my Invicta diving watch that can go up to 100 meters underwater, which makes leaving it on all the time easy to do without worrying about it.
9. Black pants: I bought a pair of black jean-style pants the summer before I went to college, and I've worn them regularly since then. They're nice enough to wear to a job interview, comfortable enough to wear traveling, and cute enough to wear on a regular basis.
10. Simple crystal studs: After years of looking for studs I could wear regularly, I finally just bought a pair of stainless steel tiny crystal studs. I've worn them every day since, either in my first ear piercing or the second. They perfectly accentuate any other earrings I wear, and are a super classic accessory to wear on their own.
11. A cross-body bag that fits all your stuff: I've cycled through dozens of these since I was twelve. Wearing a bag cross-body is the safest way to protect it from being stolen, and there are so many designs that are cute enough to wear on a regular basis. Plus, it's nice to have an accessory carry all your stuff as opposed to a backpack or tote bag, which might distract from your outfit.
12. Black booties: Right now, I'm rocking the Chelsea booties, but last year, I went with a super basic design from Sam Edelman. They're comfortable as hell, go with everything, and work in all seasons.
13. Black athletic leggings: When I was in high school, I used to roll my eyes at girls who wore Lulu Lemon or Gap Fit leggings to school. This year, I bought my first pair of athletic leggings, and I've never looked back (except to regret not trying them sooner). They're so comfortable that I could honestly live in them! The thick material makes them ideal to wear as pants, and they're made to breathe through changing external temperatures. Plus, the athletic material makes them perfect to wear in the rain; I wore mine through an unfortunate walk in the pouring rain and, while the rest of my clothes were completely soaked through, my legs were dry and comfortable when I finally got indoors.

OOTD: Sorry I'm Late

Anyone who knows me knows I'm always running 10-15 minutes late. I've been working on it a lot in the last couple months, but I'm constantly sliding into my seat moments after the clock indicates class has started and sending "on my way!" texts at the time I'm supposed to be meeting a friend. So, when I saw this shirt, it was a no brainer that I had to have it. I love this outfit because, beyond wearing my catchphrase, I'm pulling off a faux fur piece while being comfortable as hell in these sweats. One of my favorite trends right now is faux fur with lounge pieces, and I'm looking forward to trying it more in the future.

OOTD: Brown and Black Layers

I've owned this dress since high school, and I still get just as much wear out of it as when I first bought it. I love how comfortable the jersey material is and how versatile the whole piece is. I wear it throughout the year, but my favorite time to wear it is in early autumn. I pair it with some classic autumn colors, like this tan vest or this olive bag.

OOTD: Summer Uniform

This outfit accurately represents what I've been wearing all summer; my summer uniform, if you will. As a tutor, I try to present myself in an appropriate manner, so I've been wearing high necks and knee-length skirts or dresses. I have 3 dresses in this exact style, and several shirt-skirt combinations that imitate the style. I also like that this style works well in the heat we've been experiencing in Seattle this summer; especially because I walk 2-3 miles every day.

I bought these shoes as my first pair of tennis shoes in five + years and I've found they're particularly useful on days when I have to walk to a tutoring session and then walk dogs immediately after. I'm still working on breaking them in, though.

I love to wear a statement necklace when I wear a high neck, so I've been wearing lots of statement necklaces this summer. It makes me feel like I'm wearing a look instead of just some clothing.

It's been too hot in Seattle for me to wear a lot of makeup without worrying about sweating it off. So, I've been rocking a cat-eye, well-groomed eyebrows, and lipstick, but skipping the mascara and anything that's not waterproof. I've also been wearing my hair in a bun nearly every day to keep my hair from sticking to my neck.

Say hello to my second Rocksbox! After the last one, I was so excited to see what this one had in store for me. I was so pleased with the statement necklace and bracelet, and the simple stud earrings were so classic that I wore them to an interview I had yesterday. Do Denim

In the past, I haven't exactly appreciated denim. Recently, though, I discovered just how important denim is in a wardrobe. I'm currently adding some denim staples to my closet, and here's what I think the most important denim pieces to own are.

I'm an admittedly proud supporter of the Canadian tuxedo. The trick is either completely matching washes or making sure they're completely different, like this polka dot Canadian tuxedo.

I love overalls! They come in so many different variations, like these dark wash overalls. You can also style them similarly to how you would style regular jeans, like this black blazer look that would work perfectly well with pants. The overalls only add an awesome aspect to the outfit.

A casual shirt-style dress is perfect for warm spring days. Warmer days call for a short sleeved denim dress, while a light-wash chambray dress is perfect for cool summer evenings.

An easy way to do denim is by simply rolling it up: jeans and shirts alike.

Rock an oversized jacket the intended way or by simply throwing it over your shoulders.

Fashionista Friday: Class Act

Boots: Similar from JollyChic
Jeggings: Similar from True & Co.
Sweater: Similar from Forever 21
Jacket: H&M
Necklace: Similar from OASAP

My CollegeFashionista post for this week is still being uploaded, so in the meantime, check out some behind-the-scenes info from last week's post. I made Brendan take these pictures when he was here a couple weeks ago because I was absolutely enamored with the cute blue tables and chairs. I now walk past this spot every day on my way to pick up the dog I walk and still want to do photoshoots in this location. Any takers?
Don't forget to RAD my CollegeFashionista posts if you read them! It really helps with my perceived performance in my internship and it's a huge confidence booster for yours truly.

All Cozied Up

Boots: Sam Edelman
Leggings: Similar from ModCloth
Shirt: Similar from Lulu*s
Coat: Forever 21
Necklace: Target
Bracelets: Similar from DailyLook
Lipstick: Milani

I officially have a new favorite coat, and it just so happens that it is an exact replica of the blanket I have on my bed. It's so comfortable that all I ever want to do is cuddle up in it and drink hot chocolate. It also happens to be extremely chic and goes with everything I own.
